How long have you been involved in photography?
I started to shoot at the University. I shot only on film – 35mm and spent every hour of the day developing my photos in the darkroom, it was magical!
Who or what inspires you?
I research a lot. I try to be up to date with fashion, new editorials, advertising campaigns and I look at other photographer’s work. For weddings I am currently obsessed with Three Nails Photography and Max Wanger both based in USA. Fashion favs are Annie Leibovitz, Camilla Akrans, Greg Adamski and Melvin Sokolsky.
What is your favourite subject to photograph?
People
Name one thing you haven’t caught with the camera that you REALLY want to capture.
I would love to photograph people from Ibiza. Especially the community that lives in Dalt Villa – the Old Town – for decades.
Would love to do portraits of them in black and white. Going back to film again.
If you weren’t a photographer would you have another artistic pursuit? If so what?
I think I would have stayed at the University of Plymouth and continued my academic career. Always wanted to do Ph.D. in utopian studies.
If I ever stop shooting I will most likely become a teacher. I find working with kids and teenagers very rewarding.
Do you have any advice for someone just starting their photography journey?
Yes! Keep on shooting. Try to research as much as you can. Find your style but be flexible to develop and change. Progress is success!
Do you have any upcoming projects that you would like to share with our readers?
Yes we just finished our Wedding Workshop but there is plenty more to come. We are planning to invite well known and successful photographers to host their workshops at Ana Lui Studio in April and than again in October 2013. All the Workshop updates are posted either on the NEWS section of the Studio page or on my Facebook – Ana Lui Photography
